I was having a conversation today about how we reconcile God’s goodness with the evil that we see. How can God be good if He doesn’t stop the abuse or the evil in the world? But then, how could God be good if He DID stop it all which means we have no free will? The picture I described was God seeing the evil that was happening and holding Himself back from coming to the rescue to honor free will. He allows people to have free will even though they sometimes use that free will to abuse or hurt others.
What I get to see everyday is the healing that comes to people who have been hurt by the evil choices of others. God is not threatened by our Free Will because He is able to use all of it and bring good and healing from it. So then, why not go out and be selfish and make hurtful choices? God will heal it all anyway. Because we are the happiest when we are living out of our best selves. We can be a part of God’s good plan and healing.
